Dano,
I think we agree on the most important points. You are right about calories being the most important thing.Fat loss is based on the law of thermodynamics and is unarguable.Over the years,I found that hunger was much easier to control when I bumped the fat up as you said.I lost fat while retaining muscle all without discomfort.Atkins is a scam,I agree, and his diet leads people astray by disregarding calories.I do trust my friend Dr. Ellis, whose full time job is researching stuff like this. The most important part of the whole equation is physical activity.
I have one last thought.Glycogen is important for muscular work, but if eating carbs is the only way to replentish stores, how come I don't suffer the melt down that you refer to? I eat virtually no carbs.Yet amoung my peers my endurance is renown. On the contrary, our endurance(me and my fellow low carb eaters)is many times much greater than our carb eating brethern. Many of us have wrestled for hours with no fatigue or need to refuel.I could have never done that before on the higher carb diet. One does become very adept at burning ketones and triglycerides as a source of ATP during even the most strenuous activities.
