Chris,

The squat thrust(aka burpee)is one of my favorite conditioning movements. I don't think there is any one correct way to breath during this exercise.
Generally,when you squat down and compress the diaphram,it is best to exhale.As you extend the torso back,inhale.During the recovery(hop back to squat)exhale and inhale as you stand back.If you perform the version with a pushup between each squat thrust(6 count bodybuilders)inhale at the top of each pushup and exhale at the bottom.

1.standing-inhale
2.squat-exhale
3.extend-inhale
4.down pushup-exhale
5.up pushup-inhale
6.recovery squat-exhale
7.stand-inhale
